And I’ve been neglecting you.
I’m a horrible person.
The lovely Melissa Walker sent this link my way.
So freakin’ funny!
I miss you too!
I went to the dollar store the other day and passed by the silly cheap school supply section. I was inspired by the flimsy posterboard to take up a little art project. So I bought a couple sheets, some glue sticks and a packet of paster paper and started planning out my project.
Now admittedly, my plans were a blatant rip-off of some art I had seen at the Seattle Center several years ago, but I really liked it and I guess that excuses my actions.
my project: a cherry blossom tree made out of cut/ripped paper.
sketch
I sketched out my idea of the finished image, an absurdly twisted rendition of a tree trunk and branches w/ blossoms.
transfer design…
I then roughly sketched the design onto my piece of poster board.
I shredded pieces of browd paper and started gluing them to my posterboard in the shape of the trunk.â
I then cut out several small pink circles (some I cut into the shape of the blossoms that they will all eventually be) and planned out where I wanted them to be when I finish.â
That’s as far as I got. I hadplans to do a background scenery out of cut paper as well, but was kind of blocked. I soon realized taht I probably should have planned out a background before creating my tree. Live and learn. Maybe I’ll do some watercolor-like additions, but that would ruin the cut paper theme. I wish I had some very sheer pnk tissue paper, but it’s not likely to happen. I may take my tracing paper and give it a slight pink wash.
anywhoooo… this is the status update, as promised.
future updates wil be forthcoming, unless I flake out and forget about this project.

So I’d heard talk around the Valley that Roger was playing in some band (photo above is from a recent gig) and was letting his hair grow out a bit and that it was kind of, um, unusual for a guy who runs a big Valley private equity firm, Elevation Partners, that has Bono as a partner and owns a big chunk of Palm Inc., as well as some other things, including some right-wing magazine from the East Coast. But honestly I had no idea how shaggy the guy has become. Then I ran into him the other day, and I swear I didn’t even recognize him.
He was coming out of a head shop in Palo Alto with this huge shopping bag under his arm and he said hi to me. My first thought was, Why is this homeless guy talking to me? My second thought is that maybe I should take Larry’s advice and get a bodyguard so that people couldn’t just come up to me and start talking.
But then McNamee was like, Seriously, Steve, we are going to crush the iPhone, I’m not bragging, I’m just saying, it’s totally true — and I recognized that voice of his, and I was like, Roger? Is that you? What the fuck happened to you? You look like Rip Van Winkle, dude.
Because I’m not even joking, he totally does, and honestly his hair is way down past his shoulders.
He’s like, What do you mean? Oh, you mean the hair? Yup, I’m rocking the long hair. You like it?
I’m like, Dude, did you make a bet or something? Like you wouldn’t cut your hair until Palm starts making money? I sure hope not because if so you’re going to have hair down to your ass, my brother.
He just laughed, and then he went on and on about his band was gonna be opening for the Marshall Tucker Band and did I want some backstage passes, and I was like are they the guys who did “Freebird,” and he just laughed again and said seriously he was like this close to living the dream and becoming a full-blown rock star and once that happens he’s going to drop this whole investment thing altogether.
You know what? All joking aside, it’s just said. Because honestly when I first met Roger he was a nice clean-cut guy. Then he got a little shaggy but nothing extreme. Then there was the shaggy but still preppy Roger.
Roger, I’m your friend, okay? Not really. But anyway, someone has to do an intervention here. You need a haircut, my brother. Doesn’t have to be short, but just neaten it up. Okay? At the very least you need some conditioner. For God’s sake, man. Do something. Oh, and good luck with Palm.

Upon walking down the streets of Olympia on Sunday with my friend, Bryce, I noticed a few things.
My beloved friend Dallas had said a while back that I’m evolving. I notice this to be true with every passing day. “Times, they are-a changin’” as Bob Dylan would have said.
I ran into a couple friends with Bryce, Breezy and Jeff. They haven’t changed, they look the same, act the same, and are the same people I used to hang out with almost every day two years ago.
I saw the brothers playing football in the park by the lake, same as always, fighting over scores, beating each other up in a sport that I used to always watch them play back in the day, with beers hidden under the park bench.
Nothing has changed in the people around me. The same lives they live, doing the same things. Perhaps they are dating different people, or are in different living situations, or have different jobs, but does that make much of a difference in the end? Everything seems to be unaltered, from when I first met them years ago. No one is moving. It’s still here. Either that, or I am moving far too fast.
I saw Hannah and Corinne. Hannah pointed out something else about me. I’ve become more adept to saying “Fuck you.” and setting my boundaries before it gets to the point where I get fucked over.
Moreover, I do believe I have outgrown Olympia, and my dear friends here. Not that I do not care about my friends, but I think I am evolving to be something that may not be at the same level as them. I’ve become, over the past several months, something I’m proud of. Something I like being. Something else.
I’ve become Gina. And I’m still becoming Gina. Those who knew me before have to re-know me, over and over and over again. I’ll always be evolving.
Gina calls all her friends bastards, and makes inappropriate jokes. Gina falls in and out of love daily with various thoughts, musics, peoples, and things. Gina is compassionate, and Gina is strong. Gina is a douchebag. Gina is sarcastic. Gina is beautiful. Gina loves herself. Gina loves her life. Gina really is happy. Gina has a long way to go, but Gina is further along the road and has come this far faster than anyone ever expected. Gina knows where she belongs, in what crowd she fits in with. Gina is no longer a wondering human, looking for her place. Gina stabilizes.
I am currently considering re-locating, to evolve further, as I am and everyone else is aware, I cannot further grow in Olympia. I am looking into living accommodations in Seattle.
It’s an evolution, baby.
