World-class adventure sports fanatic Richard M. Stallman now has turned his attention from other dangerous activities like kite-boarding and high-wire walking and rocking the half-pipe into a new passion — hunting sharks. The photo above was taken in Australia a few days ago. This unlucky shark bastard violated the GPL and got what he had coming — a spear through the neck from RMS, who was aided in his shark-hunt by Harald Welte and Eben Moglen. Rock on, RMS, you demented soldier in the war for freedom. Much love to Jason for the photo.

I went to the dollar store the other day and passed by the silly cheap school supply section.  I was inspired by the flimsy posterboard to take up a little art project.  So I bought a couple sheets, some glue sticks and a packet of paster paper and started planning out my project.

Now admittedly, my plans were a blatant rip-off of some art I had seen at the Seattle Center several years ago, but I really liked it and I guess that excuses my actions.

my project:  a cherry blossom tree made out of cut/ripped paper.

sketch

I sketched out my idea of the finished image, an absurdly twisted rendition of a tree trunk and branches w/ blossoms.

transfer design…

I then roughly sketched the design onto my piece of poster board.
I shredded pieces of browd paper and started gluing them to my posterboard in the shape of the trunk.↓

I then cut out several small pink circles (some I cut into the shape of the blossoms that they will all eventually be) and planned out where I wanted them to be when I finish.↓

That’s as far as I got. I hadplans to do a background scenery out of cut paper as well, but was kind of blocked.  I soon realized taht I probably should have planned out a background before creating my tree.  Live and learn.  Maybe I’ll do some watercolor-like additions, but that would ruin the cut paper theme.  I wish I had some very sheer pnk tissue paper, but it’s not likely to happen.  I may take my tracing paper and give it a slight pink wash.

anywhoooo… this is the status update, as promised.
future updates wil be forthcoming, unless I flake out and forget about this project.

Larry has been telling me this for months. And I must admit, this guy makes a pretty good argument. Check out the video clips. They’re very convincing. Larry says Robert Downey Jr. studied tapes of Larry talking to develop his character. Which we both agree is pretty damn cool.

I was reading Ate Aileen’s entry about her dad’s birthday today and started crying. It’s May 19, 2008, my dad’s 21st death anniversary.

I do know a lot about my dad except for these…
His name was Joel Cecilio Ozaraga Jose. He was born on June 3. I don’t even know what year. His parents are Perfecto Sr. and Lourdes Jose. He was the youngest among 5 siblings. He has three sisters, Gloria, Milagros, and Teresita, and one brother, Perfecto Jr.

He studied at the Ateneo de Davao High School and was in section A. He then studied at the University of the Philippines - Diliman where he took up AB Political Science. He then became affiliated with the League of Filipino Students (LFS) and stopped attending college when he became involved in the First Quarter Storm during the early Martial Law years.

He met my mother, and they married eloped on December 20, 1976 (I am not sure about the year). They then went on to become members of the CPP-NPA. From what I know, they were both logistics officers. In 1979, they had a daughter, Cecilia, and another daughter in 1982, Maria. Both daughters were left in care of relatives.

On May 19, 1987, he died of multiple gun shot wounds. His body was recovered weeks later by an excursion composed of his sister and some friends. The exact location of his death, I have no idea of.

His favorite song was “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens. His motto was “One word is enough for a wise man.” He was a very tall man, and he loved to play chess. He made me and my sister a wooden doll house.

These are all I know. At this moment, I do not have with me any photos of him.

All I have a bits and pieces of memories, most of which are not my own.

Today is the 21st year that I continue on not knowing who my father was.
