Great relationship love advice

No more Tootsie Roll Banks.

R.I.P. Great-Grandma Mezzie.  She passed away today.  I think she was 86, from what my mom said.  She was the only Great-Grandma I had.   (Well, that I had the pleasure of knowing, anyway.)

She used to give us kids Tootsie Roll banks every year for Christmas, and she’d wrap a five dollar bill around the side and tie it up with a ribbon.  I’d share the candy with my dad, and spend that $5 on dumb stuff that kids buy.  I thought once I turned 18, and 21 even, that the Tootsie Roll banks would stop coming, after all, I’m an adult.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that they did not.  I’d go to Grammy’s for Christmas to find that familiar wrapping paper and ribbon covered tube with my name on it.  It really meant a lot to me.  I wish I had gotten to tell her.  Maybe she knew.  Grandmas know that stuff, right?

The last time I saw her was Thanksgiving, I think.  We were playing Michigan Rummy like we do every Thanksgiving.  She made me laugh, she was still pretty vibrant and full of laughter even though she wasn’t in the best of health.

She’s in a better place now, not suffering anymore, and someday I’ll see her again.  I hope she’s got a Tootsie Roll bank for me when I get there.

Love you Grandma Mezzie.
